英國2007年度建築師獎 頒發

從 2004 開始頒發之年度建築師獎由 2007年一改往年將獎項頒發給單一設計案的辦法，而將獎項頒發給參與設計的團隊，以表彰這些在設計工作盡心盡力的人們，從審美、環保和建築藝術各方面審視英國建築師們的作品，並且確保其在世界建築業保持前衛及領先地位，而今年獲得英國 Building 雜誌頒發之2007年度建築師獎（Architect of the Year Awards 2007）的作品即是英國對於表彰建築設計國力最好的指標之一。

宏觀規劃設計獎 | Masterplanning Architect of the Year
獲獎者：阿萊斯和莫里森建築事務所（Allies and Morrison)

獲獎理由：阿萊斯和莫里森建築事務所曾經多次參與了各種大型規劃，其中最著名的大概就屬位於倫敦中央的國王十字總部（King's Cross Central）和2012年的倫敦奧林匹克公園了。注重公共空間的處理是他們一貫的設計重點。在他們眼中，建築應該與周邊的街道和公共地區相互呼應。而這一點，通過複雜精準的設計是完全可以做到的。

The firm has been involved in a number of masterplans, the most significant of which are King's Cross Central, a 25ha quarter in central London, and the Olympic Park in the Lower Lea Valley with Edaw. Other major projects are at Cricklewood, Hemel Hempstead, East Grinstead, Winchester and Oxford Westgate.

The judges felt Allies & Morrison 「placed a real emphasis on public space」. It believes that buildings should form the backdrop to street and public spaces, and it is this approach that allows it to tackle complex sites with real conviction. 別墅設計獎 | Single Dwelling Architect of the Year 

獲獎者：塞斯·斯坦（Seth Stein Architects）

獲獎理由：他獨具匠心，將一種特殊的設計方式引入實踐，並由此引領衍生出3種不同的別墅設計研究方向。不僅如此，他所設計的每棟別墅都能在相對 嚴苛的自然限制下，通過仔細的研究和精準的判斷，將其與當地環境相映成趣。令人稱讚的是，他對於各種建築材料的使用有著自己的獨門秘籍。客戶曾這樣評價他 的設計：讓人迫不及待就想搬進去居住。

The judges felt the practice had used the one-off house in a very particular way, which had led to the development of three different house typologies.

Nevertheless, each house was a careful and well judged response to the restrictions of the site, and the judges felt this was just as assured when dealing with challenging urban settings as it is with greenfield sites.

The judges said the houses 「created a real sense of place and demonstrated a sophisticated handling of materials. Above all, this is somewhere you would really wanted to live」.

獲獎者：皮特·巴伯（Peter Barber Architects）

Over the past 10 years, Peter Barber Architects has blazed a trail through the UK public housing scene with radical and innovative projects, from the large scale including Tanner Street Gateway, Barking, and Donnybrook Quarter in east London, to beautifully crafted projects like the Cedars Road Pavilion in south-west London.

The judges said it was inventive with plan and section, creating places that feel more generous than normal rules allow. They felt the work represents a significant turning point in the culture of British housing provision, and could compete with the best of the private sector and win.
 
皮特·巴伯（Peter Barber Architects）設計之倫敦多尼布魯克小區（Donnybrook Quarter in east London）

Donnybrook Quarter
(Accommodating Change: Innovation in Housing Competition, first prize)

The Donnybrook site is located at the junction of Parnell Road and Old Ford Road, Close to the East Cross Route (A202).

The proposal is a celebration of the public social life of the street. Every aspect of the design is configured to promote buzzing, thriving public space made with a hard edge of buildings. Streets overlooked by balconies, bay windows and roof terraces. Streets where people might enjoy to sit out, kids to play, people going to and from their homes or just passing through.

Donnybrook Quarter is a dense mixed use scheme and consists of living units as well as community, work and retail spaces configured as a terrace/courtyard hybrid typology.

The scheme won First Prize for Circle 33's and Architecture Foundation's prestigious innovation in Housing Competition. The project has been published and exhibited widely.

私人房屋設計獎 | Private Housing Architect of the Year
獲獎者：BDP設計公司 (Building Design Partnership)

獲獎理由：BDP設計公司為許多高密度城市設計房屋建築，他們的設計為周邊環境帶來新生。其在曼徹斯特設計的公寓給評委留下了深刻的印象。這套公寓採用了一種新型設計理念，主要針對第一次購買房屋的買家。這種理念現已被推廣至英國各地。BDP設計公司的設計方案高雅之餘還有很強的可操作性，用實際證明了高密度環境下，也能有好的城市房屋設計作品。

Much of BDP's work involves high-density urban housing in mixed-use regeneration areas.

It is involved in Waterfront City, a new quarter in Melbourne, while Witham Wharf in Lincoln, the refurbishment of a 1970s office building into 120 high-quality apartments, is just completing.

The judges were particularly impressed with the Abito apartments in Manchester, a new concept aimed at first-time buyers and people wanting a city 「crash pad」. The concept is being transferred to other sites in the UK, and a scheme is on site in Salford.

The judges said the architect was 「inventive and able to demonstrate that high density works」. About Abito, the judges said the scheme showed 「real innovation, and that BDP had come up with a housing concept that had not existed before」.

The judges said its work was 「elegant and accomplished」.

工業建築設計獎 | Industrial/R&D Architect of the Year
獲獎者：3D Reid

獲獎理由：3DReid 設計公司(由 3D Architects 與 REID architecture 合併)能夠自如應對各種工業設計。無論是大型工廠，或是小型作坊，他們的設計始終保持較高水準。評委對他們不斷堅持，引領客戶走向「正途」的決心印象深刻。設計的建築思維縝密、價值高。公司裡的每個工作人員都富有團隊精神，對自己的工作有著強烈的自豪感。即使面臨緊張的預算等眾多難題，仍然堅持不懈、追求卓越。

The judges praised the winner for the range of projects it was tackling, from huge masterplans and complexes requiring production facilities, to small light industrial workshops.

The judges said the work was 「thoughtful and worthwhile」, and noted that the practice was proud of working in a sector that lacks a high profile but is nevertheless very demanding because of the pressure to deliver operational excellence to tight budgets.

The judges were impressed with 3D Reid's emphasis on sustainability and its commitment to pushing clients in the 「right way」. To help it do this, it now has an accredited Breeam assessor for industrial buildings.

醫療建築設計獎 | Health Building Architect of the Year
獲獎者：佩諾伊和普萊塞得（Penoyre & Prasad）建築師事務所

獲獎理由：從位於倫敦中央的兒童眼科中心到位於西倫敦的英國最大保健中心——豪斯洛健康中心（Hounslow Centre for Health），他們設計的醫療中心能夠擺脫地區限制的困難，完美地將理念與實際結合起來。設計的建築不只與城市相互融合，還能提高城市氛圍。他們證明了一棟優秀的建築能為病患、醫生、訪者帶來難以言喻的舒適和健康。

The judges were hugely impressed with Penoyre & Prasad's submission for a sector which they described as very difficult to work in due to the constraints. Despite this, the practice has managed to produce interesting architecture, but above all, it 「『demonstrated how crucial excellent design is if we are to produce effective health buildings」.

Over the past year, Penoyre & Prasad has completed a range of projects, from the Richard Desmond Children's Eye Centre in central London to the Heart of Hounslow Centre for Health, west London, one of the largest primary care centres in Britain.

The judges said: 「These are buildings which engage with the city. They also have a sense of fun and lift the spirits. It is hugely refreshing to see building of this quality in this sector. NHS, please take note!」

Also shortlisted: Avanti Architects, MAAP Architects, Nightingale Associates and RTKL-UK.

公共建築設計獎 | Public Building Architect of the Year
獲獎者：艾利斯和莫瑞森（Allies & Morrison）建築師事務所

獲獎理由：倫敦北岸的皇家節日廳（Royal Festival Hall）整修工作令人印象深刻，為英國皇家天文台（Royal Observatory）設計的現代天文館也同樣使人欽佩。這些建築不只保留了事務所的鮮明風格，同時兼顧了與周邊建築的協調一致性。艾利斯和莫瑞森建築師事務所設計範圍龐大，所設計建築的複雜度和功能也各不相同。但他們的作品卻能像一場春雨，潤物細無聲地融入城市的大背景中。

The winner turned in an impressive body of work including the refurbishment of the Royal Festival Hall on London's South Bank, and the planetarium and centre for modern astronomy at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich.

The judges said it was clear that public buildings remain at the heart of Allies & Morrison's work, and that the projects demonstrated 「consistency」.

They said: 「It is a very sophisticated body of work which shows a huge range, from a visitors' centre and footbridge for the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust at Welney, near Ely, to King's Cross St Pancras Underground station, which serves 55,000 people a day.」

辦公樓設計獎 | Office Building Architect of the Year
獲獎者：Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands

獲獎理由：阿斯提克斯辦公大樓（Asticus Office Building）的設計激動人心，這棟建築突破了幾何學的限制，突破了各種地域限制，在周圍密密麻麻的辦公樓間傲然挺立。儘管面積有限，仍開闢出了一塊極其吸引人的公共空間。Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands所設計的建築總是有獨特的風格，良好的採光，寬敞的空間，因勢利導的設計，相當有完整性。

In a sector which is too often bereft of new ideas and imagination, Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands shone through with buildings that have character, great light, and space.

The judges were particularly impressed with the Asticus building on a very restricted site next to listed buildings in a conservation area in London's Victoria. Despite its spec office budget, the building shouts quality, while the piazza creates attractive public space, resolving the circular geometry of the building with the urban grid.

「This is proper design, done with integrity,」 said the judges.

教育大樓設計獎 | Education Building Architect of the Year
獲獎者：凡·黑寧根和霍華德（van Heyningen & Haward）建築師事務所

獲獎理由：他們對自己的每一個作品都投入了極大的熱情，無微不至地關注每一個設計細節，密切注意建築質量。也許是因為他們的設計大都是為學校而做的，建築風格總是顯得溫和、簡明、採光充足，能夠一如既往地將使用者的舒適度放在第一位。建築師的熱情和責任感在他們身上發揮得淋漓盡致。

The judges felt that the range of projects submitted by van Heyningen & Haward demonstrated its “huge enthusiasm for this sector”. Attention to detail and quality runs throughout all the projects, from an RIBA national award- winning education centre for the RSPB to a new Welsh language primary school and nursery.

The judges said these were “gentle buildings that put the user first”, but they also demonstrated the architect’s “passion and commitment” to design buildings that are full of delight.

RSPB Environment and Education Centre, Rainham

Standing at the edge of Rainham Marshes in east London is the RSPB’s new Environment and Education Centre. The building’s unusual form and striking façade contrast with the surroundings, creating a distinctive addition to this important wetland area. The Centre has been designed to achieve BREEAM excellent and its environmental design features, such as a ground source heat exchange pump, photovoltaic cells and a rainwater harvesting tank, embody the client’s commitment to sustainable development, while also creating a benchmark for development in the Thames Gateway area.

室內設計獎 | Interior Designer of the Year
獲獎者：Project Orange

Project Orange says it is as interested in the inside of a building as much as the outside, and this enthusiasm, as well as the skill with which it delivers interior projects, comes across loud and clear in its submission.

The projects submitted ranged from a hotel in Cavan, Ireland, using a natural palette of materials and colours, to the Park Hotel, Mumbai, where it designed everything from the architecture to the furniture and fabrics.

The judges said the work was 「eclectic but highly sophisticated and beautifully balanced」. While all the projects are very different, this magpie approach, which collects and collages experiences together to form highly original spaces, is what makes the work such 「a joy to the eye」.

The ambition behind the latest Park Hotel was to create an iconic hotel for New Mumbai. The interiors mix traditional Indian patterns and textures with clean lines and modern shapes, bringing together East and West. The facilities include reception, bar, coffee shop and poolside area on the ground floor as well as the 'Bamboo' restaurant seating up to 60 people. On the upper floors there is a large banqueting hall adjacent to three interconnecting business suites. The bedrooms are arranged around an enclosed atrium, bringing natural light into the circulation areas. On the top floor are larger rooms with a larder facility for long stay guests; there is one master suite, a gym and small spa.

The building had been abandoned for 20 years, never having been completed. We installed a window system and painted the building white. By night the elevation is illuminated by amber and blue LED lights. The poolside terrace is characterised by a huge abstract glass mosaic pattern in blues, greys and oranges creating a graphic backdrop for the dramatic black elliptical pool. To the rear of the building is our 'white' garden. Inside, a free-form series of pods on the ground floor have been inserted. The orange plastered bar breaks out to address the terrace, while the reception zone houses the snug and is clad in hand finished plaster Jali.

The bedrooms are generously proportioned with high ceilings, decorated in a classic neutral palate lifted by flashes of bright colour. The bathrooms all have huge showers and a teak vanity counter the length of the room, which is clad in pristine white tiles. The wardrobe is a one-stop-shop for the guest containing hanging space, a safe, a fridge and a tea tray.

Project Orange designed all the furniture and most of the fabric for this project.
